Rashiq Fataar is an urbanist and the founder of Our Future Cities, an independent organisation based in Cape Town, South Africa which works to transform the urban development, planning and design of cities and spaces to become more inclusive, progressive and vibrant.
The organisation’s social platforms reach over 120,000 followers and it has been recognised as one of the leading platforms for cities in Africa. The website and platforms have been showcased at the Guggenheim Bilbao, Vitra Design Museum in Germany and the FRAC Centre in France.
As a consultant he builds coalitions between the public, government agencies and the private sector through research, strategy development, advocacy, and design processes to advocate for and realise more innovative projects.
Fataar has also been covered by local and international media including including Icon Magazine, Monocle TV and The Guardian and has been invited to present his work globally in many cities including New York, Barcelona, Paris, Casablanca, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, London and Toronto.
He has also contributed to various publications and books, and has taught and advised various education programmes in the urbanism field. In 2018 he was appointed as the Curatorial Director of a new design festival in Cape Town.
