Introduction

My name is Santiago Reyes Villaveces; I´m a Colombian artist based in Bogota and Ambalema, a municipality in the countryside of Colombia. In 2017 I finished my MA in sculpture at the Royal College of Art with the Abraaj Innovation Scholarship. My practice follows a material investigation of structures, assemblages, and dynamics that evidence states of transitivity and precariousness. I´m interested in exploring a latent architectural sensibility that is evident in precarious structures; mostly visible in—but not limited to—everyday urban life in Latin American cities. The architectural mediations I address relate urban detritus, overlooked by-products of construction, and improvised temporary structures, underscoring a latent sophistication in anonymous ways of doing.

The works comprise installations, sculptures, drawings, prints and performative actions that address different relations of temporal indetermination. These works transform, determine, modify, and interfere with the spaces in which they operate; affecting the way in which the spectator occupies and perceives space. My research is thus multilayered and involves a wide range of states that include the material, conceptual, historical, structural, and public participation projects. In this sense, my works often involve different media and traverse interdisciplinary spaces of production and circulation.
